Now we all know what Bill Murray must have felt like in Groundhog Day. We’re living the same day. Over and over. My real job, working as a costumer in film/television, has been put on an abrupt pause until further notice.
I’ve been trying to stay busy with my Tarot card website, I’ve started a podcast with my best friend, I’ve been blogging more frequently over here, and I wrote an ebook! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve also watched pretty much everything on Netflix, so balance is key here.
I am so proud of the ebook because it can serve as a training manual for how to be a costume production assistant.
It goes over literally 99% of the job.
I see multiple shows struggle to find good pa’s around, because most of the good ones join the local Union. Which is great, they deserve to move up, but it’s not so great because now someone else who has never done the job before, who doesn’t even know what 95% of the words we use mean, has to come in and we’re left with someone that we have to train on the spot.
And this happens over and over. Supervisors have to train a new PA every couple of shows! And some of these supervisors have been working for 30 years!
So I wrote a book. If you have ever wondered what it’s like to work in the costume department, this book is a great place to start. A Costume PA is the entry level job, but also the first step into the costume world.
Once the ebook is purchased, you may friend me on Facebook and I will add you to the Facebook group that has others who have purchased the ebook and also supervisors and coordinators who will look at this group to hire their next pa! CONNECTIONS ARE SO IMPORTANT!
I worked so hard on this and had so many other costumers, coordinators, and supervisors look at the book and provide their feedback. I’m so happy for it to finally be finished!
