The key to a great capsule wardrobe is to pay attention to the colors and silhouettes that you are buying. You want to make sure that you can have a pile of clothes, blindly pick three items, and they’ll all work when you put them together. My suggestion for you is to focus on adding these basics to your closet, and you can always work in your favorite unique pieces to create something magical.
I use a capsule wardrobe! So I definitely practice what I preach. I also use Ally bank to create different savings buckets for my clothes addiction. When my savings for clothes bucket reaches around $200, I’ll look online for something to add to my rotation or to replace an old item. It doesn’t have to be a plain cookie-cutter garment, you can do a capsule wardrobe using cool unique pieces as well, but you do have to have the foundation pieces first to build onto.
Here are the foundation pieces that I recommend. They are:
good quality
feel good, sustainable fashion brands
Though, to get a variety of price points, I did save some items from Zara (but who doesn’t love Zara)
basics that are easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe
pieces that still have something to say
